Today we should have gone whale watching from kaikoura but there had been a landslide that covered the road and railway. Instead we headed 90 minutes south to the town of akaroa (a quaint town with a French influence). A stunning waterfront setting with hills all around. From here we took a two hour boat trip out to sea and were lucky enough to see little blue penguins and the endangered new zealand dolphin (hector’s dolphins).
