Retail Manager Iain Bell, travelled earlier this month on a journey exploring the amazing sights of Ho Chi Minh City. This is somewhere Iain has always wanted to visit, in particular to learn about the fascinating history and culture. During his trip, Iain kept us up to date with his daily adventures and here are some captions from his travel diary.
Sunday 11th December:
I arrived safely in Ho Chi Minh City after an 11 hour flight from Gatwick. One of the group was obtaining her visa on arrival and this took at least an hour - tip: get your visa in the UK. Ho Chi Minh City is a much more modern city than i imagined. I’ve been to the Cu Chi tunnels this afternoon which are about an hour out of Ho Chi Minh City. They are a collection of tunnels used by the locals during the American war. Tip - don't go in the tunnels if you are claustrophobic and they are very narrow and low. Staying tonight at the Park Hyatt which has the reputation of being the best hotel in Ho Chi Minh City
Monday 12th December:
Five hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet travelling through the countryside and villages. Phan Thiet is a coastal resort along a long stretch of beach however the sea today is rough and they have the red flags flying.
Wednesday 14th December:
Left Ho Chi Minh City this morning for a 45 minute flight north to Nha Trang. Sadly, it’s raining so we are not seeing it at its best. On a boat now on our way to the six senses resort - very choppy!
Thursday 15th December:
Another day and another flight - today we flew to Da Nang. It is much cooler here. Have had a tour of old town Hoi An. A wonderful town that is asking to be explored.
Friday 16th December
North again, this time to the old city of Hue. The trip around the old citadel had to be abandoned due to bad weather. It has not stopped raining now for two days!
Saturday 17th December
Flew to Hanoi today and the rain has finally stopped! It is much cooler than Ho Chi Minh City though. Staying at the Sofitel Metropole, one of Hanoi's oldest and best.
