Continental to charge extra for exit row seats
Submitted by michael on Wed, 10/03/2010 - 10:56Continental Airlines has announced it will begin to charge passengers for exit row seats later this month. A £130 fee will be added to tickets for the seats, which provide an additional seven inches of legroom, The Telegraph reported. Passengers will only be told of the cost when they check in at the airport. The airline disclosed a £65 charge as a guide price but it will fluctuate depending upon demand on the day or length of the flight. Jim Compton, Continental’s Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer told the Telegraph “Our customers want more choices. Seats with additional legroom are higher-value seats, and we want to offer them to customers who recognize that value.”The additional costs have been criticised but other airlines are expected to follow suit. Additional fees for different services have become more apparent as carriers struggle to make money. Continental carries passengers to the United States from Bristol, Birmingham, Heathrow, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast.
